:!: Want to contribute with an article, information, text or some content in any way? Great! Here is what I want you to do:

1. Simply post a reply to this thread with the text you want to add to this site and make sure to include your real name and email address and to which section you think the text would fit.

2. I will then add the text to the Shooting 8mm website as soon as I have time, and then remove your reply in here. When a reply is removed it's a confirmation that your text has been added to the site.

Simple as that!

Go on now and write some 8mm stuff! :D

/Andreas

To the History section

Post by Andreas Wideroe »

From: "Bill Sherren" <wb.sherren@ntlworld.com>

Talking of the history of 8mm, my father first got a Bolex P1 in the early
60's and added a Lecina 8sv later..

I took over the filming in the 70's with a Bolex D8L and them a H8RX. I
used to hire many films during that period through the post.. I was a
member of at least 6 or more film librarys. The films were mainly cut down versions of features and in the first part were silent versions of the
films..Because of this I also became interested in the early German silent
cinema, as it seemed only sensible to hire films that were originally
silent anyway. Later I got a dual gauge sound projector Silma Bivox.
By the mid 80's the days of these film librarys were numbered..And that
combined with the eventual unreliablity of the Silma reduced my interest in
8mm..

I still have all my cine gear, and have always found the Bolex H8RX the
most beautiful camera ever made.. Even if I never used it again I would
never sell it.. But thanks to your site and the knowledge that Standard 8mm film is still out there, may well start again.

H8RX movie on line

Post by studiocarter »

Hi Bill,

Just uploaded to the upload directory: ftp://ftp.filmshooting.com/upload/
is a teaching movie on using the H8RX camera that I made for my students a while back. It has some really close close ups of the manual. You may like it.
Download the movie called: Exposure.mpg
It is 15.7MB; 01:34 long; will play full screen using Windows Media Player ver 6 by pressing Alt Enter. Download by right mouse clicking on the file or link and select "Save Target As..." and it'll get put onto your desktop. After that, burn it to a CD.
Have you ever thought about having your old movies put into such a format and posting them on line or put onto a CD to mail to friends?
Hey, tell you what, you dust off your old camera and I'll do the same! What should we shoot? Clouds? Traffic? Night signs? Sunsets? Downtown crowds? Reflections in car bumpers or store windows?
One roll won't break the bank account. Send it to me and I'll put it up here for free.

I dare 'ya.

Change the name of the save file

Post by studiocarter »

Something wierd happened when I tried to save the file. I had to change the name of the file in order to save it. No problem. It got burned as a read only. When you select, "Save Target As...", simply change the name of the file to save on the desktop by adding one character to the name. Like: Exposure1.mpg or something like that.
