DIY Telecine

Film on Kodachrome Transfer to computer - DIY telecine is the cheapest, but not the best, see my efforts on my site on the signature! ( I have to get people to it some how) Edit on computer. Create VCD that plays on DVD player or transfer to VHS Tape for common video player. ATI All in Wonder Cards ...

16mm to Double 8mm

It is possible - and in all honesty that is all I know. There used to be a company, or individual under the name of LGP who supplied, I think, film of this type. Designing such a machine would not be difficult, although you would need a good toolmaking shop to make one. Simply the film would run ove...

Picture sizes

8O It is best to stick with multiples of 16. 160 X 120 is the mallest used, but not the best. The options are 128 x 96, 192 x 144, 265 x 192, 320 x 240, 384 x 288, 484 x 336, 512 x 384, 576 x 432, 640 x 480. QuickTime is very good at producing odd size. As a compromise I like 192 x 144. One thing th...

QT Test

:D Assume they are off to pick a pocket or two in Norwegian. It worked fine. About 30 seconds as it downloads, then plays as the rest follows. Quite watcheable, especially if one is sitting close to the screen. I am currently using an old 800 x 600 monitor after my newer one went kaput. Saving for a...

Kodachrome

If I am not mistaken is the suggestion that Kodachrome is best shot on bright, cloudy day rather than a bright clear day to reduce the contrasty effect of a reversal film? Especially if the objective is a transference to an electronic media rather than direct projection. If so this is great news as ...

Light meters

For many years I used a Jonhson exposure calculator for reversal film. These devices are surprisingly accurate and can often be found in the odds and sods bin of camera dealers and the like. I beleive Kodak also used to do something different. British Standard 935 1957 Photographic Exposure Tables (...

Upload Formats - QuickTime

MPEG-1 is fine if you have one of the high speed connections. Meanwhile many of us are still operating on 56k modems, which in practise means much less. After much research I have settled on QuickTime save under the default 40kbps setting in QuickTime Pro 4. For the most compact files Real .rm or Mi...

Daylight Film in artificial light

80a, which I think is blue, is about right. Just make sure you have plenty of light.
I remember trying it out, many years ago, and it worked!

Processing Kodak S8 Black and White

I have just acquired some Tri-X and Plus-X with the intention of developing them myself. Mad I know, but this is a hobby. I would also like to develope them as negatives rather than going through the palaver of reversal processing. Modern technology can do that for me electronically. However, both t...
