Re: new digital camera better than 35mm film?!
This is really the old audio analogue/digital debate taken to a new level with images. However, let us be brutally honest. Most people, me included, cannot tell the difference between a digital and an analogue audio, except the latter might have clicks and scratched. Same for analogue and digital im...

Re: new digital camera better than 35mm film?!
First time I have read an explanation of the difference between digital and film light gathering. I have not appreciated before the obvious fact that the digital sensors are always in the same position while the chemical sensors are randomly distributed. To emulate film then the sensors on a digital...

Ilford 8mm film
I mentioned that years ago I had used Ilford FP4 cut for double 8. Someone was curious having never heard of it. Well, I kept the tin, it came as a 30mm length. It still has the lable and hopefully I will post a picture here:

Re: what double 8 and double super 8 film do you wish existe
Can’t believe that Ilford sold FP 4 as Double-Eight stock It was in 1975, and might have been FP3. Last time Iooked I think I still had the tin with the lable. It was a 30m/100' reel. If I find it soon I will certain put up a picture. Most of my 8mm stuff is up in the roof, which is currentl...

Have you been to the pictures lately?
Instead of subscribing to one of the one line services we, SWMBO and I, have started going to the cinema again on a regular basis. Daytime senior rates make it worth it. OK, it is not all film. Intersellar was though, you could see the odd hair in the gate!!!! Projection of digital is I understand 2...

FP4, it did once, still have the tin, label and movie. Reversed OK.
I suppose if I ordered enough then they would make me a few reels? Just wonder if they still have the kit, they certainly still have the film.
I just need the right numbers!!!!!!

Re: Wards Color Film? Anyone Familiar?
In the UK the film branded for a big seller was usually Ferrania/3M. Not sure if 3M/Ferrania ever made super 8 though. I believe Boots, a large chemist/pharmacy chain had own brand film made by Agfa. Agfa were probably used by otheres as well. This continued into Super 8 days. Ilford were in the 8mm...

Re: Which of these small businesses do you think would do be
My suggestion would be the technology route. if you can make the re-perforator/splitter then why not a small continuous processing unit and maybe a film to video unit say tied in with the Raspberry-Pi Arduini type computers. All of these require the manufacture of sprocket transfer device which woul...

Re: Spiral tank emulsion in/out
I unwind the films onto spools and then load the spirals from the spools. I made a fixture that allows a pair of cartridges to be wound onto spools simultaneously. I actually managed to wind spools from cartridges and then to load both spools onto the spirals of my Lomo tank using a large changing b...

Re: Digital super 8 cartridge
I have been thinking about this and realised that the only element of the movie camera being used is the lens. Therefore it would seem the quickest route to a hybrid would be to fit a cine lens onto a digital camera - one of those cheap flat ones would seem to be a good sacrificial donor. I have thi...

Re: Digital Bolex
Bolex are/were in the business of making making machines to record the moving image so it looks a logical progression to move onto camcorders. Yes, this might be logical step. Unfortunately Bolex can't do this any more after giving that US-Canadian-company a license for putting a Bolex-sticker onto...

Re: Digital Bolex
An upmarket camcorder using the Bolex brand. Bolex are/were in the business of making making machines to record the moving image so it looks a logical progression to move onto camcorders. Canon managed it OK. Certainly a better option than just sticking the Bolex name on a camera from the Universal ...

Re: Digital super 8 cartridge
Assuming the technology works it looks to be a great way of utilising the optics of the camera while recording a digital image. For a start most digital cameras have no manual control over a mechanical iris or mechanical focussing of the lens. It really comes down to the old argument about what is t...
