Re: Has anyone tested Retro-8 from MovieStuff yet?

I hope Roger will make a sampler DVD available of Retro-8 scans. I think this would be an effective promotional tool. I know I would not consider a purchase unless I could see an actual DVD transfer on my flat panel. The Tobin system sampler DVDs have phenomenal quality....some of their 8mm transfer...

Re: Has anyone tested Retro-8 from MovieStuff yet?

Kodak dropped the ball on this one....back in the late 70's they did come out with a portable low cost flying spot super 8 scanner ( I believe it was about $2000.)..... if they simply improved and perfected this unit...it would of given great life to super 8 Film. The company was managed by people w...

Re: Discussions about a hypothetical new S-8 camera

S8 never succeeded in any noticeable big screen or big distribution film making. Kodak had dreams in the 60s about Super 8 becoming the format for local cable TV origination/broadcast. Remember they came out with a portable flying spot scanner in the late 70's. Alas, they did not see the incredible...

Re: Super 8 film on CNN ... Thursday Aug 1

I thought the scans were impressive, from the sections I saw not a single scratch was visible. The only thing I thought was dumb, was presenting super 8 in a boxed in shrunken format....the quality was good enough for full screen, ...why not use it to full advantage? Its like going to a screening wi...

Super 8 film on CNN ... Thursday Aug 1

I caught the very tail end of a commercial-promo on CNN about a Richard Nixon special being broadcast 9pm ET on Thursday...if I interpreted correctly, it appeared to use extensive Super 8 filmed by someone in Nixon's circle. It will be interesting to see the scan quality....if anyone knows what lab ...

Re: Irving Higdon (IJM) Passes On

I remember him telling me he could repair any projector....so I sent him my projector and then he called me back and said it was unrepairable and I owed him a $30. inspection fee plus return shipping.

The focus ring should turn smooth and freely. It does on mine.

Re: Bolex 'B' & 'P' Regular 8 cameras - no loops?

I have owned a number of standard 8mm cameras....even the cheapest ones costing less than 1/10th of the price of P1 have all produced perfectly steady pictures (back in the 60 and 70s). I have never experienced jerk as you describe.

I haven't used my P1 since the 80's but virtually all the footage from then is rock steady.

Re: Double 8mm roll...actual length?

I remember around 63'
- 64 that Bell & Howell sold double 8mm roll film cameras that came with a re-loadable magazine which made the mid-run flip easy to do....just flip the magazine....I never realized that users got some extra film with this method. Anyone use one of these?

Double 8mm roll...actual length?

The 25 ft rolls of double 8mm camera film....what is the actual length of this film? In other words, how much extra footage is there over the 25 ft for threading and fogging protection?

It is the most bizarre feature of this otherwise, great projector.
