Re: Bolex 18-5 projector has less flicker than others

I want to add....that while this is a superb projector....I think it does have an Achilles heel. The intermittant claw/cam movement is completely shielded and cannot be lubricated without major disassembly. I notice under heavy usage, the projector does become louder, I believe because of this inabi...

Re: Bolex 18-5 projector has less flicker than others

The original bulb was an halogan bulb (KPGT) that I think was availabe for just a few years.... it is interchangeable with an incandescent bulb cxl/cxr. The halogan bulb was somewhat brighter. The halogan bulb had an external reflector I believe
like the modern 100 watt halogan bulbs do.

Re: Bolex 18-5 projector has less flicker than others

Actually, the reg 8mm Bolex 18-5 has a 50 watt bulb. One reason for its brilliance is the bulb can be adjusted for precise filament alignment with the aperture. Many other projectors using the same bulb (without the adjustment capability) have variable brightness because their filaments sometimes li...

Re: what double 8 and double super 8 film do you wish existe

When I started filmmaking in 1964....At a local discount store, frequent sales offered 2 rolls of double 8mm film ...Mirachrome brand (which looked as good as Kodachrome if not better). 2 rolls for $3.00 and that included processing and return shipping. Inflation adjusted for 2014.....$23. Thats the...

Re: Super eight film making will soon be 50 year's old

New manufacturing technologies such as 3d printing are emerging....which will make for easier film manufacturing..film will make a comback...a 100 years from now...people will still be making movies on film.

Re: Super eight film making will soon be 50 year's old

I remember reading about a guy who showed some super 8 films to some neighborhood kids who had never seen home movie projection...they said "it was the neatest thing".

Re: Films and Info I Would Like to See

Fairchild Cinephonic 8mm 200ft zoom lens..the only model I know of, ...was introduced just at the dawn of super 8 around Jan 1965....I do not believe this camera ever saw production because of its ill timing ( thanks to the boys at Kodak who wanted to surprise everyone). This 200ft Fairchild camera ...

Re: Ferrania hope to start film manufacture in 2014

I think the idea would be to spurn new life in the format...and bring in new users. Hopefully, the 10,000 would produce work that would make video producers jealous and want them to try film production for the "elusive film look" .

Re: Anyone have experience digging a film gates channel deep

Have you cleaned and lubed the film with something like Filmguard? This can make a big difference in film transport.

Re: New 8mm scanner from Tobin

Overall, regular 8mm cameras had better quality lenses than super 8. My experience was that it was only the high end super 8 cameras that had high resolution glass lenses. Many of the mid to low end super 8 cameras had low res plastic lenses that actually had lower resolution than most reg 8mm camer...

Re: Anyone have experience digging a film gates channel deep

I would not recommend this. There maybe a bur ingrained in the film channel causing the scratches....take a wooden stick ( like an ice cream bar stick)...and rub it across the channel...then clean with isopropyl alcohol soaked cloth...

Re: Mirachrome from the early 60's

The Mirachrome I shot was ASA 10 daylight.... I did shoot a few rolls Dynachrome ASA 25...and they are completely different in color rendition. The Dynachrome 25 processed by Dynacolor tended to have a yellow cast and was inferior to Mirachrome 10 which did look alot like (maybe indistinguisable fro...

Mirachrome from the early 60's

Does anyone remember a reg. 8mm film sold under label Mirachrome in the early 1960's.....does anyone know anything
about the company? It was almost grainless...the beautiful color has not faded in 50 years...I started buying it in 64 and it seemed liked the company disappeared sometime in 1965 .

Re: 8mm movies on iPhone !!!!!!!!!

Can you control what "film effects" you can add? Some of the sample footage looks like real 8mm , and some as stated "stored in a glove box for 20 years".
