Re: Discussions about a hypothetical new S-8 camera

And around we go again. Nothing will happen with the horrible 1970s cartridge load. The only thing that makes sense is to shoot 16mm. I am still failing to see what super 8 brings to the table in today's terms. GoPro offers size advantage in video. Is there "really" a need for super 8 form...

Re: Eumig Nautica lost PMA lens

Easy...just make sure the zoom works back and forth by hand. You do NOT want to have the lever on the side flipped down to the PMA setting. That position is for the PMA lens attached. It is a normal 9-30mm zoom without the PMA. Look here, scroll down to see a picture of the camera with the lever on ...

Re: Super 8 film on CNN ... Thursday Aug 1

Prediction - it will be roughly presented and perhaps even purposely poorly transferred (I was going to say even sublet to an intern to transfer to digital but an intern might actually add value to the process).

I hope I am proved wrong.

Re: Discussions about a hypothetical new S-8 camera

Does anyone remember the end of Ferris Bueller's Day Off? It's like that. Hey I love cameras as much or more than MOST people. There are so many options these days to combine both digital imagery and old school cine lenses that I fail to understand the need for a true film-only super 8 camera. It's ...

Re: shouting into an empty room

Carl, I think I need a drink and a smoke to better interpret your thoughts. Interesting perspective for sure. I was thinking that the one thing digital needs is electricity. Always. In fact without it, it's hard to say you even still "have" the digital visuals at all. Not so with any other...

Re: Konica Compact 8 Batteries

This link may help you: http://super8man.filmshooting.com/super8_20.html ...basically, the larger 2.7v is simply two 1.35 v batteries stacked with a slight spacer. However, all of that is obsolete. And mercury had excellent properties for a light meter battery...near constant voltage until the bitte...

Re: shouting into an empty room

Not sure, but I think in general non-professional interest in "real" film has pretty much died. You could say when Kodachrome died, it pretty much put it all to rest. Fast forward to today and everybody casually "videos" everything and anything...and some things that should simpl...

New life for D-mount lenses

While not "film", the Pentax Q does offer HD 1080i movie abilities. But what I really like is the ability to mount d-mount lenses on it. Sure, the sensor is not as big as a micro-4/3rds camera, but with the small sensor, it enables most d-mount lenses to be used with zero vignetting. I hig...

Re: Retro 8 1st roll

I would be interested to know the file sizes of a 50 foot roll before and after pulldown. Lots of detail in that 720 transfer. I thought the skies were too blown out but the one scene of the raspberries on the green vines was really nice. Keep up the good work. Here's my youtube from some years back...

Thanks Andreas, I really appreciate the hosting of the site on your website. I still have my outriggercanoe.com domain but it makes much more sense to host it here.

Cheers,

Re: Micro 4/3 and C mount or D mount lenses.

Thanks for the replies. I discovered pretty much what all of you have stated. Well, so much for my plan of using those old Canon lenses. They may still fetch a decent price on ebay should I go that route. Otherwise, I am quite enjoying the cameras and in particular the Konica Hexanon 40mm f1.8 is a ...

Micro 4/3 and C mount or D mount lenses.

Is anyone using a micro 4/3rds camera system and making use of the C mount adapters? Has anyone had luck mounting D mount lenses? I have a half dozen Canon bayonet mount 8mm lenses and happen to have a few Canon-to-D-Mount conversion rings (talk about rare). When I used a d-c conversion ring and mou...

Re: Kodak stops production of Ektachrome 100D

Sadly, as I recall, they got rid of K40 since we "needed" "professional" film. Apparently K40 was holding everyone back from realizing their dream to become a professional. Then we had E64T that was "officially" approved for use in cameras since 64 ASA was a standard AS...
