Scot, you should realy consider a machine vision camera with trigger input. Then you will be able to transfer true progressive frame-by-frame at variable speed between 0 and 20fps.

Re: Building a Super 8 Transfer Unit

For the Müller CTS system, I have designed a replacement lighting system using RGB LEDs which flash at the equivalent of over 10x the power of the original LED system. It allows for heavier diffusion for an even field, but I have had to also use a lens to keep the intensity up, which tends to le...

Re: Attempting 16fps Video From Regular 8mm Films

It is very simple. 1) Start with a frame to frame transfer. One film frame = one digital frame. 2) Do not use all those exotic codecs, uncompressed RGB is the best. 3) Set play speed of the digital file to 16 (with VirtualDub). No additional frames will be added, only the play speed will change. 4) ...

Re: 8mm Avisynth film restoring script

If there is no need for levels and/or color corrections, you can leave the black borders and disable color and levels corrections in my script. Otherwise, you must remove the black borders, before doing color/levels corrections. And you must remove any duplicate frames before using my script. The gr...

Re: The power of Avisynth post processing

Hi Klodenet,

All Avisynth questions can be asked here:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=144271
Unsharpmask comes from the Warpsharp.dll plugin.
All parameters are depending on the source.
Every source needs different parameters.

many greetings,

How do you get the paraffin off once it has been applied?

Hi Roger,

Well, like I mentioned, it's a test. I will leave it on the film for now and see what happens.
It might be a good preserving agent for film, we will see.

Re: Old 1966 regular-8 4:3 to 16:9 and some other tricks

Hi Andreas, I have used several fluids for wetgate scanning. - Isopropyl alcohol is good, but it evaporates very fast and it has a strong smell. It also absorbs water from the air so after a while there's to much water in it, and then it is damaging the film emulsion. - Filmguard.. It works good but...

Re: Old 1966 regular-8 4:3 to 16:9 and some other tricks

Hi Freddy, I am very curious. Would you provide a bit more detail as to how exactly the liquid paraffin is applied to the film? Is this done as the film is being scanned or prior? Is the substance left on the film or removed afterwards? Many thanks. Cheers, Jean-Louis Hi Jean-Louis, The paraffin is...

Thank you all for the kind words :)

@Woods01:
Yes, it works on very grainy sources too.
There are some examples on Vimeo.

@Freedom4kids:
I'm not using a 64 bit version.
The 32 bit version runs fine on a 64 bits Win7 system.

@S8 Booster:
I'm happy you're back :wink:

Re: Would this work with a work printer?

and just shoot it in real time and then import the footage and write a script (in avisynth I suppose) to go through and remove all the duplicate frames -- would it work? What would the quality be like? Yes, it can be done. Search for John Meyer at the Doom9 forum. He has made an Avisynth script for...

Old 1966 regular-8 4:3 to 16:9 and some other tricks

Hi everybody, I have developed a wetgate scan system and I'm using liquid paraffin for it now. Yes, the same stuff you get from the doctor when you are constipated :D It was Edouard Chalaron who gave me the hint to use paraffin. You will find him on Vimeo. The liquid paraffin makes all vertical scra...

Re: HDR technique applied to Super 8

The problem I have is that due to small position difference each frame is not aligned in the x-y as they are captured at different times. This results in some "ghosting" around objects. Hi Theo, There's only one good solution for this: capture the dark and bright frames at the same positi...

Re: Why AviSynth?

One of the things that has amazed me about the avisynth clips I have seen has been the sharpness of the image before and after. If you are referring to my scripts, it's a simple trick: 3x unsharp mask, radius 3,2,1 large radius first. You can do this in VirtualDub too, with the unsharpmask plugin f...
