Re: The new Muller HDS scanner, what do you think about that

The most interesting feature for me is not the hardware, but their restoration software http://www.filmfabriek.nl/restoration.html It seems to be based on Virtual Dub, as seen in the screenshots. So this puts it in the same league as the Film9 software. I am still working to get my head around that...

Re: My new 8mm film transfer system

That's a very interesting point. I wonder how much of the "8mm look" we've come to understand is really due to relatively poor transfers. If you can make stock from the 50's look this good it really does open up a new world. This is very true. The famous "8mm look" was not cause...

Re: My new 8mm film transfer system

really impressive Fred. your results has become an art of beauty - taking film imagery into new dimensions... Shoot..... Thank you Booster  But the man who has made this film, had a very good "eye" for framing too. The way he has captured those Scottish pipers for example. Fred.

Re: My new 8mm film transfer system

By the way would I be correct in assuming that your client was utilizing a 1.5x anamorphic compression system on his H8 Bolex? Thank you too for appreciating my work :) The maker of this film has given me all his other films too because he know I'm doing something with it. He is 85 years old now, a...

Hi Woods,

Sorry, for now I only do this for fun. Perhaps later, when I'm retired.

Re: My new 8mm film transfer system

Thank you for the technical correction Frank!

As you know, I was testing the high speed flash system with my old TIS camera first. And the sharpness was already much better. So yes, high shutter speed eliminates mechanical vibration.

Re: My new 8mm film transfer system

Sorry, no pictures yet, Scot. The current setup is temporal, I had to mount some things with tape etc. You would not believe that it actualy works when you saw it. :P

Re: My new 8mm film transfer system

Hi Miki,

Avisource() should open most of the files but sometimes you need DirectShowsource(). It depends on the used codecs. I have no experience with audio, but in most of the cases the error message will tell you what's wrong.

Re: My new 8mm film transfer system

Miki, You have probably copied an example script with colorbars(). Amazingly this returns... colorbars. If you want to return a video file with the script, you must first open the file with Avisource(). But if you do not have the patience to learn these very simple basics, then Avisynth is not...

Re: My new 8mm film transfer system

Hi Miki, It took me 5 years to learn it and I still do not know everything about it. The best way to start with Avisynth is from the very beginning. Try to open a clip with an Avisynth script. VirtualDubMod will even create this simple basic script for you. But my film script only works with a good ...

Re: My new 8mm film transfer system

Thank you all for appreciating my work. :) Roger, on this specific footage I had to use a lot of degraining and sharpening. The original film was not always in focus and the anamorphic lens gives sometimes a blurred effect on the edges. So the script runs very slow: about 2fps. But it runs the entir...

My new 8mm film transfer system

Hello everybody, Here is the first result of my new film transfer system: https://vimeo.com/49963017 I will post this on other places too, but without Filmshooting.com the development of this system would not have been possible. So I tought to post it here first. With special thanks to Frank Vine fo...

Re: Building a Super 8 Transfer Unit

You are the expert Frank! No doubt about that. I still think the TIS camera is a good option for beginners. It comes with easy to install aquiring software. All my filmtransfer clips on Vimeo where made with the TIS. So the end ressult is not that bad. 8) It is very well possible that the camera you...

Re: Building a Super 8 Transfer Unit

The cameras from The Imaging Source are relative cheap. I have used the DFK 31BF03 for a few years, last time I checked the price for a new camera it was around 400 Euro, software included. Of cource you need a lens too. A 50mm C-mount lens with extention tubes schould do it for the 8mm format.
