Re: Light Meters, advice ?
Maplin do a universal light meter for about £30. Values in lux but should not be too difficult to convert to photo use. One of the given uses is for photography so there might be conversion information with it.

Re: Changing drive belt in Eumig 605D projector
There is a form of 'universal' belt available in lengths that are cut as required. To make a belt you need a soldering iron with a flat blade. Cut the length required, heat each end on blade, push together and all being well it will work. Takes a bit of practise but I managed to get a small lathe ru...

Re: easiest way to open a super8 cartridge for home processi
I made a fixture clamping a pair of cartridges together. I then pulled the film out winding it onto 50' projection reels. I did two at a time as the tank takes two films. I managed all this and loading the spirals from the spools all inside a large daylight loading bag! Getting the film onto a proje...

Re: Minimum for negative film processing
The minimum needed for home processing are flat dishes for developer and fixer and a frame to wrap the film around. And of course a dark room.

Re: 3D printing a reloadable Super 8 cartridge??
Film stock is coated so a 3D printer would not make film. However; it could possibly make parts for a machine to cut and perforate existing film gauges, or a machine to coat acetate to make film from scratch. There are a number of technologies under development that are going to aid the small manufa...

Re: 3D printing a reloadable Super 8 cartridge??
Check out some of the movies of these printers. There is one of the Hewlett Packard machine that prints out an adjustable spanner - the work and rack work! I reckon your suggestion is correct. It would be possible to print out a re loadable cartridge - but whether or not it would be light tight is p...

Some text and pictures of old equipment can be found on this site.

It is still 'under construction' but the equipment pictures are OK.

Re: Self-processing B/W
If like me it is mainly to see if an old camera works then negative processing is fine. DIY telecine with a projector and camcorder works OK and naturally the computer editing does the reversing. I have manage Tri-X and Plus-X OK in a Lomo tank. The most basic method I have seen described is an open...

Re: Kodak has a secret nuclear reactor
Those of us of a certain age here in the UK fondly remember the Eagle comic and the centre cut away drawings of all sorts of machines and plant, real and imagined. One of the imagined ones was a steam locomotive of traditional layout with a nuclear reactor in place of the coal fire. I cannot remembe...

I have a bottle from the mid 1960s that still works fine. I also have a newer bottle, probably from the late 1970s.

Here are a couple of pictures of a frame that may be used with a developing dish. From a web site under construction.

Re: Digital Bolex
Have you noticed how digital still cameras are looking more and more like the old style cameras. Well expect digital cameras to follow and start looking like old movie cameras. Who will be first? Canon, Fuji, another? Actually a Fuji based on the basic single 8 cameras would be a good idea. It took ...

Re: UK J of P: "Kodak phases out digital, keeps film alive.
Kodak recently announced a nice little pocket HD camcorder with that rarity on basic cameras, a microphone socket. Quite fancied it for that feature alone, although it had a few other good features as well. Now it looks like it will not be available. I just hope they are not ditching other innovativ...

Do not reckon on silver prices falling. There was little bit on the radio this morning suggesting that silver may be suitable for cancer treatments without the side effects of current platinum based chemo treatments. However, they have to find out why silver has anti - bacteriological properties bef...
