Question about Technique

One of the techniques listed was "Pixilation". What is this? Where can I learn more about it?

Also, isn't stop motion the same as animation?

Can a rank amatuer with less than 30 minutes filming under his belt participate?

Yes, the Belts Galore article here on this site is worth reading. I followed the instructions given in that article for making a belt using Polycord. Here is the direct link to the article: http://www.8mm.filmshooting.com/community/articles/belts.php I bought a few feet of Polycord from Small Parts,...

I've just ordered a Lomo spiral reel tank from Olexandr Kalynychenko and it should be arriving within a couple of weeks. I am currently building a film carrier to fit into one of my Jobo drums so I can process film using my CPP-2 processor, and I'll soon be ready to start testing. I suspect, however...

For the absolute best in machining services for photographers, I heartily recommend Steve Grimes at http://www.skgrimes.com/ I'm certain that Mr. Grimes is up to the simple task of making bushings to fit a Kodak 100' spool onto a Bolex H8 spindle. He has done far more demanding custom lens work for ...

I bought battery acid at an automotive parts store here in Texas. I believe it's 48% sulfuric acid, based on comments I've read in various forums and web sites. The Kodak R-9 bleach formula calls for "concentrated" sulfuric acid, which I gather is about twice the concentration of regular b...

Thank you, Wahiba, for the detailed information. For clockwork cameras, then, the Quarz 1x8 Super 2 sounds like about the only thing going that uses standard Super-8 cartridges. DS8 I'll rule out altogether. Other than the Fomapan DS8 film from Chambless, there don't appear to be a wide selection of...

I have two Morse G3 tanks with the re-exposure window that I haven't tried to use yet, mainly because I wasn't sure whether or not they'd be suitable for Super 8 film. Thanks to Sverre, now I know that they will work OK for Super 8. I'd rather try to figure out a way to process Super 8mm film in my ...

Thank you very much for that detailed explanation, Michael. I understand it now. The A&B roll has black leader on each roll that is exactly opposite a scene on the other roll, and this allows for "seamless" printing by printing twice, once from each of the A or B rolls, onto the same c...

Clockwork cameras

I'm thinking about buying a clockwork camera or two to augment my small but growing arsenal of "modern" electronic cameras. I think I would enjoy filming with them, and I like the idea of being free from dependence on batteries in some situations. One of the clockwork cameras I'll probably...

Michael, thank you. I think it's over my head at this point and I'm not certain I really understand. In fact, I may be hopelessly lost. Creating an AB rolls sounds like it would be tedious, especially if you have to splice black leader between each frame of each film, and I still don't understand wh...

Michael, you said Making your own release prints from AB rolls is the most interesting thing that may be done. That sounds interesting. What is an AB roll, and how does one make a release print? Is that a negative to positive, or positive to interneg to positive process? Is there a way to go from po...

Check out the section toward the bottom of the page here that talks about Old Kodachrome II Films (KA 464, KA 459, KII, and similar) that required the old Process K-12: http://members.aol.com/Super8mm/ServicesPage10.html My understanding is that the K-12 process is no longer possible, and Kodachrome...

It's good to know that the Jobo 110 reels will work, but I'd hate to have to cut a 50 foot roll of Super 8 film into 8 pieces in order to process it! It'll be tedious enough to have to process a single uncut roll at a time in the Jobo with my homemade film holder. Even though it's somewhat time cons...

B&W reversal processing of Plus-X or Tri-X is not all that difficult to do, from a processing point of view. I've developed a few rolls now using Kodak D-94 for the first developer, and Dektol for the second developer. Image tone and grain looks good, but other physical characteristics are hard ...
