My Yashica allows 8, 12, 16, 32 and 48 fps frame rates. As a still photographer, I enjoy playing with frame rates because it gives that extra dimension that I can't use with still film. Obviously I'm not a pro filmmaker, but I've gotten some pretty unusual and artistic motion captures using the sing...

I think I remember properly TriX wasn't always 200 ASA back in those days - it was 125. In fact looking at the auction pictures, it is 125 ASA film. But if I'm getting what you're saying, maybe the best course of action is just to test the film by metering for several different ASA ratings - for exa...

A question about how to use old film stock
Hey everybody! It's been a long time since I've posted here, primarily because I've been involved in my other expensive hobby - motorcycles. I rebuilt a 1974 Suzuki TS 125 in my dorm room with nothing more than a $20 tool kit and a craftsman impact driver. Now that it's running good and I've financi...

New to editing - help a guy out?
So I'm new to editing films. I now have 4 spools shot - 200 feet of film. However, being that my first 2 rolls were pretty bad, and my second 2 just not extremely interesting, I would like to edit out the bad parts of my film collection and combine them into a single film. On impulse about a week ba...

Univex had a history of building pretty cheap products. They built their cameras cheaply because they often used their own film standards, and wanted to be able to stand a chance against the already established Kodak Eastman company. We'll see how this one comes through. If I ever use it at all, whi...

Yeah, they are definitely not rare. I usually try to find the best ones I can with original boxes and documentation though. I don't have the money to collect Bolex cameras, nor do I have a stash of Rolleiflexes. If I had that kind of money, I'd probably be shooting a lot more film. I think tha...

Has anybody shot straight 8 film? A Univex camera?
OK, so I've been tracking some old Univex cameras on ebay, after reading a little about some of their old compact cameras (some of them are small even by today's standards!). However, it looks like Univex made their 8mm series to work with straight 8 film, which is apparantly half the width of doubl...

This might be jumping in a little too late, but let me share my 2 cents here. I know this is slightly off the original topic, but maybe somebody will find this catchy... Shooting digital, or VHS, or Hi8 or whatever it is you want to shoot, in still or motion photography is a great way to jump in and...

OK, so thanks for the responses so far. Being in mostly artificial light, I'm sure even the 200 ASA films will require fairly large apertures in the f1.8-f4 range. It strikes my mind that the norm for an 8mm movie camera at 16 fps is about 1/30 shutter speed. I'm a little concerned about my light me...

General question - filming Halloween?
OK, so I guess the title is kind of stupid, and I'm posting kind of late because I can't seem to get to sleep. I don't get to shoot much film, given that it's expensive, I'm broke, and I don't get a lot of spare time anyway. My first 4 films were just test reels, and my last 2 came out really well. ...
