Looking for a good super 8 film projector

I've been doing some research on super 8 projectors and have found way too many to choose form. Can anyone please offer some advice? I need one that will run 18 and 24 fps, with fast F stop lens, bright image (would like to show movies outside in my back yard), and can serve as a telecine machine to...

Man, his are some of the most shocking and heart wrenching images I've ever seen. How does he bear being witness to such overwhelming human suffereing? Maybe Joseph Conrad is right--men who go out to face a darkness should have no entrails.

Home Movie Day in Hollywood

I went to the Home Movie Day event today. It was held in the gorgeous Lynwood Dunn Theater on Vine Street in Hollywood. Not a very big turnout but some great footage was shown--a lot of stuff from the 30 through mid 80s. I think I was the only guy there who wasn't a senior citizen and who showed a h...

Compare your own experience with school and work. Which taught you more about yourself? Most school work in kindergarten through 12 grade is mundane, irrelevant, boring. Ask any student. Moreover, the majority of kids who graduate from high school STILL don't know what they want to do with their li...

Work will teach a child more about him/herself than sitting in a classroom ever will. This is proven. By whom may I ask? And dont you think the an education and work vary a tiny bit in what we learn? Dont compare apples with pears. /Jan Man, where to begin. Proven by history, by the lives of most p...

The kids didn't sign contracts, but the video promo clearly states that a kid can leave the project any time. No kid is forced to stay and no kid will be forced out. I'd say that alleviates a lot of pressure, unless the parents are compelling their kids to stay in the show. In the end, fingers shoul...

So you object to the fact that a TV network came up with the idea. No, the difference is that if the kids involved in building the orang enclosure all decided to quit, then that would be part of the documentary, as well. But if all the kids decided to quit Kid Nation, then there would be no Kid Nat...

What's exploititive about the CBS show is that it's being televised (for profit, for ratings, etc.) But if this were a cooperative learning project designed by a public school and not televised, would any one here object? I think these kids can learn some valuable lessons. Actually, there are shows...

"On the other hand, I certainly wouldn't want to see children forced to work in coal mines or sweatshops, or factories as they did in the turn of the 20th century. This was clearly exploitation. It was work that risked children's lives and aimed at maximizing profits for the owners. " So,...

Children worked in colonial days, and society did not call it exploitation. The average lifespan was about 35, also, and girls married and regularly gave birth to children at age 15. What we would consider "teenagers" now would have been considered "middle aged" back then. In fa...

I find it humorous that some people find the idea of children working horrifying. A testament to how our society has changed since the industrial revolution (not necessarily a good thing in some respects.) Children worked in colonial days, and society did not call it exploitation. In fact, children ...

Am I alone in saying one version of a movie is enough? The theatrical release is the only version I am interested in. Otherwise, they may as well bring out the vote-while-you-watch-machine (remember those???) and the audience can pick the ending of the movie prior to its ending... Seriously, this i...

Re: Great film, but no market for it: Sorry...

...I find it really fascinating and also troubling that great films die on the vine. Some films win prestigious awards - like the Golden Palm at Cannes - and then don't get picked up by distributors! (L'Enfant, 2005) and also a film from local Seattle filmmakers (Iraq in Fragments, 2007) a film tha...

Yeah, I read about that. But they'll probably charge $1000 for it knowing Pro8mm. They also just added a crystal sync to their 16mm camera. Damn thing cost about $6000 though.

Emmanuel "Chivo" Lubezki was the DP on that film. Great work. Check out The New World, directed by Terrence Malick, for more of Chivo's awesome cinematography.
