Help choosing film type for short
Hey guys I'm going into preproduction on a short film this week. It's a cyberpunk tale. I'm after that darker kind of film noir look. I'm planning to either shoot DV with heavy camera and post filtering or shoot super 8. If I go with the latter what film stock would you recommend? I've considered tr...

Vision2 500 footage?
Where can I see some quality transferred vision2 500 footage on the internet? I'll be shooting a short film in the next couple of months and want to see how grainy it is before even shooting a test roll. To see if I should even bother shooting a test roll. Or if it wil be just too grainy for my tast...

Thanks guys. I thought about using an SLR. I have a Nikon FE. But instead of taking guesses at everything for my first test roll yesterday I decided to shoot it with autoexposure. I didn't realize the cameras autoexposure meter would work with the standard AA batteries. I thought I needed some obscu...

Exposure settings (best guess)
Hey everyone it's been a couple years since I last shot film. I just got my super 8 cam back from my buddy who has had it for 2 years. I want to shoot a few rolls to test it out. However about 6 months ago I did something stupid. I sold my light meter. I was tight for cash and didn't know when I'd e...

Rick on here shot his 81-minute movie Sleep Always on Super8 for just a little bit more than you did on the XL1. It is not impossible to do a movie on film for roughly the same as it would on video, but it will require discipline. I'm planning on doing mine on film for just a little bit more than R...

I just completed my first feature. Shot with a Canon XL1 DV25 camera. Obviously I would have loved to shoot 16mm or even super 8; but it wasn't in the budget. This is the reason video is so prevalent as most of you know. For $3000 I was able to complete a 71-minute movie. I recently budgeted what we...

Re: OT: Quentin Tarantino on CGI
Quentin Tarantino (who pretty much invented Rodriguez) thinks about CGI in movies: I very much doubt that. They are buddies. Share a few actors. But that doesn't mean Tarantino invented Rodriguez. They have very different styles of filmmaking as you have already pointed out. Anyway I would expect t...

Indie Film Database
The new Indie Film Database is now online at VisionEngine.com (soon to be also at IndieFilmDatabase.com) It's another way to advertise your film. You can search out submitted films by the camera/film used to shoot them, the film format(quicktime, WMV, ect.) the film genre or type of film(trailer, fu...

Tonight I saw The Matrix (the first one) in the theater with a bunch of my buddies. We all paid $8.50 a ticket which was expensive as it is for a film we all already own on DVD and have owned for years. But we went for the communal aspect of it. Just to be in the same room with a whole bunch of othe...

Does anyone know if you can get these in 16mm anywhere? Also where would you process them in the US?
