Thanks to the help and suggestions from the people on this site regarding 16mm, I ended up buying a Canon Scoopic 16M in October. There are a couple of things about the film format that I would also like to get some closure around. For one, do film manufacturer's actually put leader on raw 100 ft. d...

Projector or bulb problem!
I currently own a Bell + Howell autoload projector model 466A. About a month ago the bulb on it blew. I ended up buying a replacement bulb on ebay which arrived yesterday. I popped the new bulb in, ran the projector, and the new bulb blew after 5 seconds of running. The seller indicated that the bul...

Hey Tom; To tell you the truth, that film is made up of several different reels that I have shot over the past year while learning to shoot film. I figured that I could make an interesting montage to depict the chaos of a big city. The second cartridge of super 8 that I ever shot was the Tri-X that ...

My first super 8 film!
I have recently uploaded my first film that I shot entirely on super 8. I would appreciate comments from those of you who have a high-speed connection and don't mind downloading the 18.7MB file. Please be kind since I have only been into filming for about a year. Thanks, Simon. ftp://ftp.film...

I picked up my florida film footage yesterday and it looks amazing. I managed to pick-up the shadow of the aircraft in the shot while we made our initial ascent, and it really adds to the overall perspective of the shot and shows just how fast the jet is really going. I shot this footage on VNF 7240...

Well, I'm back from my trip and I managed to successfully avoid having my film carts X-rayed both leaving and returning. They will always ask you what the ASA is and tell you that the X-ray won't harm it. So I reply that it is an unusal film type with very high sensitivity. Their ingnorance worked i...

It is my understanding that all miniDV(consumer) cameras record the video at a compression of approx 5:1. This would be true considering NLE applications like final cut or Avid DV can only input at a fixed compression of 5:1. I beleive that DVCAM and DVCPRO(professional) record at a lower compressio...

Projector Bulbs
Aside from ebay, does anyone have an idea where one can find projector bulbs within a Metropolitan city?

Filming on a jetliner
I'm taking off for Florida on Friday and wish to film out the window of the aircraft. Has anyone ever done this, and if so, any advise on avoiding problems with technicalities and security.
Thanks, Simon.

I personally get all my super 8 and 16mm footage transfered on to Beta SP. I then transfer it from my Beta masters to miniDV with the same timecode, so that I can now do my offline editing at home using firewire and online(hi-res) elsewhere on an Xpress or Symphony. Beta SP is analog however, but it...

Beaulieu 1018 SX 8?
I couldn't find any stats on the Beaulieu 1018 SX 8 super 8 camera on
the super 8 list: http://www.kolumbus.fi/puistot/
It seems like it might be a cheaper model.
Does anyone know If this camera is any good for a beaulieu?
Thanks, Simon.

I am constructing a special tripod mount that will screw into the from of one of my old snowboards. I'll let you know how it turns out. Keep in mind, the snow could get onto the lens and ruin your image. To avoid this while snowboarding, I am going to build the mount high enough to prevent snow gett...

I'm not sure as to how the K40 service and carts with mailers differ from Europe to here in Canada. Recently I took a K40 cart with no mailer to be processed. It was left by the original owner of one of the super 8 cameras I bought. It could have been 20 years old. I take my carts to a drug store ca...
