Re: Krasnagorsk?

Hi In my opinion there is one disadvantage for the M42 threaded version of the Krasnogorsk-3. There is nearly no way to get a proper wide angle lens. The Meteor lens shipped with the camera at its widest zoom setting (17mm) has a field of view like something around 60mm for 24*36mm film. I have bou...

Re: A few new experimental films

"Solaristics" was just beautifully done! The fact that all effects were in-camera just adds to it's 'experimental' charm. I enjoyed "Spatial(excerpt), however, I would recommend attaching a warning, for those who may be prone to seizures! Inspiring stuff. I look forward to seeing more...

Re: 24 FPS VS 18 FPS

I have a couple of super8 filmmakers who are shooting shorts and features. One DP shoots at 24 but has us transfer at 18fps. His subject is usually surfing and he does it this way to give a slight slow-mo effect to the footage. And even on the non-surf subjects he likes the effect. The DP working on...

Re: 24 FPS VS 18 FPS

Thanks everyone for your input. From what I've been hearing, 24 fps sounds like the best way to go for two reasons; it provides a slightly smoother motion, and is a more convenient speed to telecine. For now however, I believe 18 fps is perfect for me as a beginner. As carllooper said, the slower sp...

Re: 24 FPS VS 18 FPS

nikonr10, thank you for the words of encouragement. Just checked out Lenny Lipton. Wow, what a prolific career as a filmmaker and writer. Not to mention writing the lyrics to 'Puff the Magic Dragon' at 19. You learn something new everyday!

Re: 24 FPS VS 18 FPS

Shooting at 24fps for sound quality only applies if you are watching the film through a projector. The old super 8 sound film had a magnetic stripe that recorded the sound and played it back on the projector. Super 8 sound film is no-longer available unless you find someone to add a magnetic stripe...

Re: 24 FPS VS 18 FPS

The best thing to do would be to shoot a cartridge at 18fps, transfer it with your preferred telecine, then do another cartridge at 24fps and transfer that one. See which one you like. :) Usually if you shoot at 18, frames are added in to make it play at the right speed at 24 (or 30) fps. So part o...

Re: 24 FPS VS 18 FPS

Traditionally 24 fps was for sound, and 18 fps for silent. The faster rate for sound was to ensure the sound quality was acceptable. Motion is marginally better at 24 fps. And if transferring to digital, 24 fps tends to be a more compatible frame rate. However a great benefit of 18 fps is that you ...

24 FPS VS 18 FPS

Hey everyone, new shooter here. I've got a beginner question that I was hoping you folks could help shed some light on. I want to get the best image quality I can out of my Nikon R10 so initially I was thinking about shooting at 24 fps but I've read that 18 fps works just fine. How much of a differe...

Re: Krasnagorsk?

Andreas, thank you for the warm welcome. And thank you for the reply. I had heard about the Canon Scoopic but hadn't really given it much consideration as I know nothing about this camera. This is something I will have to look into. You mentioned that there would be a light-leak with the K-3 when us...

Krasnagorsk?

I usually see them for sale online as a kit which seems like a great way to get started in 16mm. I'm talking about the Thread-Mount version. What are some advantages and disadvantages of the Krasnagorsk-3? Pros vs Cons, should I get one?

Nizo S8T JAM!

Hey everyone, new to the forum and film shooting in general. I recently picked up a Nizo S8T online for $.99 plus $9.99 shipping, which to me seemed like an affordable way to get familiar with shooting. As soon as my camera arrived I popped some fresh batteries in and began familiarizing myself with...
