Imagine if they went the whole hog and reintroduced a colour reversal film....

Re: Bolex D8l rubber roller question

That roller (or more appropriately, post) shouldn't turn. Its there to stop the film being tugged through the gate. The takeup spool is driven by the motor. As film runs through the camera the circumference of the film held on the takeup spool increases so a single rotation of the takeup spool draws...

Bizarre. aj makes a helpful observation by pointing out that things have moved on and includes a link to the relevant thread. You jump down his throat. Whats your problem?

Re: double vs single perf on K-100

1R is single perf and 2R is double perf. Single perf film is only perforated along one edge, double perf has a corresponding set of perforations along the other edge.

Re: is 16fps the "normal" frame rate for regular-8?

It should also be pointed out that unless your fifty year old camera and projector have been recently lubricated and calibrated, there is only a remote possibility that the speed setting reflects the speed the mechanism is actually moving at.

Re: New John Schwind Site (Regular 8 Film)

As I mentioned earlier in the thread. I have used Mr Nowill's service and am extremely happy with the results. Using Bolex D8 cameras and M8 projectors the projected images are rock steady.

Re: Using screw-on filters with B/W 8mm film

Talking of filters and 8mm, does anyone know if it's possible to use filters for the tiny D-mount lenses my small Bolex B8 uses? The Kern Paillard D mount lenses take either Series 4 (20.8mm diameter) or Series 4.5 (25.4mm diameter) drop-in filters. You'll need to get a screw on lens hood or filter...

Re: Standard 8 editing

If you want to cement splice, get the proper Kodak acetate leader. (somebody on ebay sells it, or you can get it from Chambless in the US or Nanolab in Australia).

Re: New John Schwind Site (Regular 8 Film)

It is possible to get 50d in R8. Have some perforated by that fellow in the U.K. I received some 7250 standard 8 (R8) recently that had been perforated to R8 from single sprocketed 16mm. It would appear it can be done in very small quantities too. Indeed you could shoot r8 neg, have a normal 16mm p...

Re: Favourite Standard 8mm projector?

I have a Bolex M8, a Bolex 18-5 and a Specto 500. They all produce steady images although the Specto lens is rubbish compared to the Bolexes. The M8 and the Specto both drop the 240v UK supply to 110V for the bulb via a huge coiled wire resistor. This is like the heating element of an electric fire ...

Re: Is 3D here for the duration?

I take 3D home movies using a pair of mechanically connected Bolex D8 cameras, but even I think its no more than a gimmick. It'll fade away like it did in the '50s and the '80s, only to reappear in another thirty years. In the meantime I'm looking forward to watching Avatar in an IMAX cinema.... htt...
